Trusses and Roofing
Erecting the trusses
Walk the first truss over into the correct position, offer the truss up and fit a temporary brace to hold it in an upright position, position the base of the truss on the markings on the wall plate put in position using the nail gun, adjust the temporary brace to bring the truss plumb, repeat procedure to the remaining trusses bracing them off the first one.
Marking out the horizontal bracing
Position 4 to 5 lengths of bracing timber onto the trusses just above the wall plate and in line with the inner face of the inner skin of the super structure, mark the position of the trusses onto the depth of the bracing using the pencil and set square, square the markings round onto the face of the bracing using the pencil and set square.
Fitting the horizontal bracing to the trusses - using a nail gun
Put the bracing timbers into the roof through the gable end at the positions stated on the section detail of the roof layout/plan, line up the marks from the previous stage with the trusses and fix in place with the nail gun.
Fitting the diagonal bracing to trusses
Slide the bracing timbers into the roof through the gable end at the positions stated on the section detail of the roof layout/plan and aerial view, ensure the trusses are vertical using the spirit level, fix the bracing timbers to the underside of the trusses with the nail gun.
Fixing of the restraint straps
Put the restraint straps on top of the horizontal bracing, make sure the strap is tight against the inner skin of the super structure within the cavity and fix down using the hammer (Paslode PPN 35i may also be using if available).
Fixing of the wall plate restraint straps
Put the restraint straps on top of the wall plate and down into the building at the positions shown on the roof layout/plan, fix the restraint straps down into the wall plate using the screw gun, drill through the restraint strap and into the wall using the hammer drill, put a plastic plug into the hole and hammer it down so it sits flush with the face of the restraint strap. Using a hammer put a screw into the plug and hammer down until the plug is in the wall. Tighten the screw with the hammer until the until the head is sat tight on the restraint strap. Continue the process for the desired amount of fixings per strap and then repeat to all the other straps.
Fitting of the truss clips
Put the truss clip around the truss and tight up to the face off the wall plate, fix the truss clip to both the truss and wall plate.
