Installing Fascia and Soffit

Marking out and cutting back of the spar feet - using a tape, pencil, spirit level, hammer, string line, bevel and rip saw

Measure of the face of the outer skin of the super structure and mark onto the two end trusses the width of the soffit which will be shown on the elevations drawing using the tape and pencil, plumb a line up from the marks and onto the top of the trusses using the spirit level and pencil, punch a nail onto the mark on top of each truss using the hammer and run the string line tightly from one to the other, set the bevel to the plumb cut on one of the outer trusses and mark plumb cut off the string line on the remaining trusses using the bevel and pencil, cut the spar feet to the plumb lines using the rip saw.

Cutting and fitting of the fascia board - using a tape, pencil, hand saw, set square spirit level and hammer

Measure the required length for the fascia board using the tape, ensure that if the fascia board needs to be jointed then the joint should fall on a spar foot, transfer the desired dimension onto the fascia board using the tape and pencil, square up the mark using the set square and pencil, cut the fascia board down the square line using the hand saw, to ensure the soffit sits level offer the fascia board up to the spar feet and level across from on top of the outer skin of the super structure to the inside lip on the back of the fascia board with the spirit level, fix the fascia board to the spar feet using the hammer, repeat the process if a single length of fascia board is not long enough.

Cutting and fitting of the soffit board - using a tape, pencil, hand saw, set square
Measure the required length for the soffit board using the tape, transfer the desired dimension onto the soffit board using the tape and pencil, square up the mark using the set square and pencil, cut the soffit board down the square line using the hand saw, slide the soffit board under the fascia board and on top the outer skin of the super structure, slide the soffit board into the lip on the back of the fascia board.

Noggin out on top of the soffit board - using a tape, pencil, chop saw and nail gun
Measure from the soffit to the top of the truss on the pitch line above the outer skin of the super structure and at the spar foot using the tape, transfer the desired dimensions onto the timber using the tape and pencil, place the timber onto the chop saw and cut to the marks ensuring your hands are safely away from the blade when pulling the saw down, repeat the process so there is one of each size noggin per truss, place the noggins tight on top of the soffit board and fix into position using the nail gun.
